Give Up These Habits
If You Want to Improve Your Life
If you’ve been trying to improve your life, but find the process frustrating, it may be because you’re holding on to some bad habits that perpetuate a cycle of unhappiness.
These bad habits make it hard for you to grow as an individual and can introduce even more challenges into your already busy and complicated life. Stop Being a Pessimist A lot of challenges will come into your life, no matter how good you seem to be doing. Depending on how you react to these challenges, they can serve as moments of growth or become obstacles that seem impossible to cross. Don’t let negativity overwhelm your perspectives on the future or discourage you from taking important steps to improve your life. Prioritize Yourself Although it sounds selfish at face value, you need to put yourself first if you’re going to enjoy your life and be the best version of yourself for others. By putting your own needs on the back-burner, you create a cycle of self-neglect that impacts your capabilities and diminishes what you’re able to offer to others. Self-care is important to keep you in a healthy state of mind and enable you to better serve your loved ones. Don’t Stay in a Career That You Hate While it’s vital to make a living, don’t kill yourself trying to do it. You risk burning out if you’re miserable with your work, and then your performance will suffer and a negative cycle will be created. Consider joining Fiverr and creating a freelancer profile so you can sell your services to clients at rates that are favorable to you. This can help you to create a more flexible work schedule and transition out of a job you dislike. Eat Healthy and Exercise If you aren’t eating healthy, it will eventually have long-term health effects and impact the way that you feel on a daily basis, and can hold you back from doing your best at work or school. It can also impact your mood and make you irritable. Exercise has both physical and psychological benefits and it’s always a good idea to take advantage of them. To look and perform your best, you should strive to get some kind of exercise each day, even if it’s as simple as walking. Don't Envy Other People's Lives If you aren’t happy with your current life, don’t bother comparing it to someone else’s. It can be tempting to look at the lives of celebrities or even your neighbors and compare your situation to theirs, but this is unproductive and will only leave you more unhappy than before. It also distracts you from your own circumstances and provides excuses for you not to progress when you become caught up in highlighting perceived advantages others might have. Live Your Best Life By implementing healthy habits and making decisions that increase your happiness and sense of independence, you can preserve your mental health and take steps towards your ideal life. Don’t let negativity overwhelm you or fall into bad habits; keep your eyes on your goal and keep going at full speed. |

Val's Take: I think Self-Help has its place --- at one time I had hundreds if not thousands of self-help books and I still quote Stephen Covey all the time --- and I still have those books that are particularly special to me.
By and large I think it is difficult to say that SELF-HELP or for that matter TRADITIONAL MENTAL HEALTH is ---- TOTALLY WRONG or WITHOUT VALUE.
On the other hand, SELF-HELP and TRADITONAL MENTAL HEALTH are often inadequate.
The PROOF is our current MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS --- it's NOT just a question of getting people HELP --- it's getting BETTER HELP based on MORE SOPHISTICATED UNDERSTANDINGS.
