Long-Term Use of Tylenol During Pregnancy May Raise Risk of Autism, ADHD

1/15/2023

Val's Take

This is sort of another chink in the armor of the MEDICAL COMMUNITY and also RESEARCH COMMUNITY ----
  • I'm not so concerned that THEY'RE NOT PERFECT ---
    • I'm concerned about our EXPERT CLASS --- the ROLE they want to play in the SOCIETY and we want them to play
      • when the FOUNDATIONS of the EXPERTISE are often NOT AS SOLID as we all might hope.
  • I'm really wanting to get to the ISSUE not of INDIVIDUAL PRACTITIONERS PROVIDING SUB-STANDARD CARE --- but of a STANDARD of CARE that is SUSPECT.

  • So one of the reasons why the law focuses on STANDARD OF CARE ----
    • is to have a BENCHMARK that is KNOWN or SHOULD BE KNOWN to the PRACTITIONER ---
    • & the idea is that makes it FAIR to hold the PRACTITIONER --- ACCOUNTABLE --- for the STANDARD OF CARE.

  • Holding people "ACCOUNTABLE" ---
    • Generally, the Criminal Law for Poor People and crimes of specific intent and
    • The Civil Law for many Corporations, Professionals and others where the issue is often negligence and/or fraud.

  • Holding people "ACCOUNTABLE" is a lot different than SOLVING PROBLEMS.
    • I've seen a lot of SCAPEGOATING in both the CRIMINAL & CIVIL LAW SYSTEMS ---
      • and it is DESTRUCTIVE.

  • The move to PROBLEM-SOLVING COURTS and COLLABORATIVE JUSTICE is an attempt to address some of these issues.

Long-Term Use of Tylenol During Pregnancy May Raise Risk of Autism, ADHD

Researchers say pregnant women who use acetaminophen products for four weeks or more can increase their unborn child’s risk of autism and ADHD.

Cont. from Column 1

There's a lot of HIERARCHY in the Medical Disciplines -- and Mental Health has traditionally not been at the top of it.
When someone like myself RAILS AGAINST the DSM and THE MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSION NOT BEING ON TOP OF THE RESEARCH Where would the BANDWIDTH even come to address those issues? The National Institute of Mental Health?
  • NIMH has some fantastic LONG TERM PROJECTS such as the RDoC (the Research Domain Criteria Program)
  • BUT MEANWHILE . . .
US CRIMINAL JUSTICE is struggling and we're often relying on PSYCHOLOGICAL EXPERTS who aren't really getting the SUPPORT they need to be RELIABLE EXPERTS.

Cigarettes & Wine

11/14/2022

Conjecture

Cigarettes and Wine are 2 big LEGAL SUBSTANCES that can be extremely problematic from a health perspective.

But isolating NICOTINE and RESVERATROL from Wine seem to have benefits.

NICOTINE is already being used to help people get off the COMBUSTIBLE USE OF NICOTINE.

At least some Neuro-Diverse people --- smoke cigarettes to calm themselves down.

I have mentioned before that I think it very interesting that part of our MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS is coinciding with a reduction of CIGARETTE SMOKING ---
  • People aren't dying as young from preventable illnesses --- but they do seem to be MORE ON EDGE and having a harder time with Mental Health.

Correlation is NOT CAUSALITY -- BUT it should prompt us to INVESTIGATE FURTHER.

I think NICOTINE may help some Neuro-Diverse people calm down --- but even if that is true we're still talking about IDIOSYNCRATIC BIOLOGIES in which in an IDEAL WORLD that NICOTINE DOSE is TITRATED based on Evidence-Based Research and able to be SELF-MONITORED based on a RANGE.
  • NOT UNLIKE BLOOD PRESSURE,
  • & NICOTINE can effect BLOOD PRESSURE among other things.

I think there are a lot of reasons why we would want that at the LOWEST POSSIBLE DOSE ---
  • IF it proved helpful and the SIDE EFFECTS didn't outweigh the BENEFITS.

RESVERATROL is being celebrated for its ANTI-AGING properties ---
  • That is important to everyone ---
  • It should be especially important to NEURO-DIVERSE people who may have come pre-packaged with a large dose of SYSTEMIC DEVELOPMENTAL INFLAMMATION.
Smoking during pregnancy with a genetic risk triples the risk the baby will have ADHD
Past research has suggested that both genes and prenatal insults -- such as exposure to alcohol and nicotine -- can increase the risk of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

But the identified increases in risk have been very modest.

Now, scientists has found that when those factors are studied together, risk of a severe type of ADHD greatly increases. .   .  .

"But when we looked at the effect of maternal smoking in children with one of our candidate genes, we saw a three-fold increase in risk, and in children with both genes whose mothers smoked during pregnancy, we saw a nine-fold increase," says senior investigator Richard D. Todd, M.D., Ph.D., the Blanche F. Ittleson Professor and director of the Division of Child Psychiatry at Washington University.

"Our findings begin to offer an explanation for the modest effects we've seen when looking at genes or environmental variables one at a time. It appears it's really the interaction of genes and environmental factors that predisposes a child to problems with ADHD."
I think the issue of Developmental Systemic Inflammation has been very common throughout HUMAN HISTORY.

Smoking by women in the 20th Century increasing what was already there.

FOR HOW MANY GENERATIONS WILL THOSE EFFECTS BE SEEN?

epigenetics & stress--- Stress Management as EPIGENETIC MANAGEMENT for Neuro-Developmental & Psychiatric Disorders

10/23/2022

Could keeping Neuro-Diverse People within "Executive Functioning Homeostasis" to MANAGE STRESS RESPONSES help manage EPIGENETIC CHALLENGES?

We already know that managing stress is important --- It is probably more important than we realize.

BUT IT'S COMPLICATED --- IF WE'RE NOT DEVELOPING STRENGTHS --- IT'S PROBABLY NOT GOING TO WORK

Conjecture

Epigenetics is more and more seen as a component of Neuro-Developmental Differences, Psychiatric Disorders, Cancer and Auto-Immune Diseases.

Further, these Epigenetic impacts are often going to the IMMUNE SYSTEM.

Additionally, Social Behavior is now being conceptualized as a DELICATE BALANCE of INNATE & ADAPTIVE IMMUNITY.

Further, it is becoming more obvious that people with the challenges above almost by definition have OUT OF BALANCE or DYSREGULATED IMMUNE SYSTEMS.]

The Role of Stress and Chronic GI Symptoms in Autism

Anxiety is also elevated in autism and this heightened state of distress occurs across the full age range. Research has shown, for example, that children on the autism spectrum are more likely to suffer from anxiety with close to 40 percent having at least one diagnosable anxiety disorder (Van Steenel, Bögels, & Perrin, 2011).

Given that both anxiety and GI problems are high in autism, it’s interesting to ponder whether or not there is a link between the two.

Research suggests that there is. Mazurek and colleagues (2013), for example, found that autistic children with GI conditions had higher rates of both anxiety and sensory over-responsivity.

There may be common underlying mechanisms that are unique to autism that influence the association between anxiety and GI problems. Some areas of the GI system which have been found to be impacted in autism include:

  • Increased intestinal permeability
  • Altered intestinal microbiota
  • Altered Serotonin metabolism

However, it is important to note that the association between emotional distress and GI symptoms also exists for those who are not autistic.

There is an increasingly growing body of literature demonstrating a relationship between emotional distress and GI symptoms for the population at large.

In some ways, this is not surprising given the multiple ways in which the GI tract and nervous system interact.

The interactions between the GI tract and the nervous system are so close that the gut is sometimes referred to as “the Second Brain”.

Feeling Stressed? It Can Make ADHD Symptoms Seem Worse

Writing in the Journal of Attention Disorders, researchers note that ADHD symptoms are associated with stress, especially for those adults who primarily have the inattentive presentation. Chronic stress makes symptoms worse, and even causes chemical and architectural changes to the brain, affecting the brain’s ability to function.

In Nature Neuroscience, researchers note that stress affects the prefrontal cortex, the same location of the brain affected by ADHD. There, stress reduces neuronal firing and impairs cognitive abilities.

Dr. Murray says that research has shown repeatedly that stress causes changes to the brain. There is a decrease in the executive functioning abilities of the brain, often seen in the person’s ability to organize information and activities, and to manage emotions.

“What we can see over time, especially when stress is at the level we could consider toxic or chronic—or traumatic—you can see some effects on the brain,” she says.

“It’s both brain structure, and size of some specific sections, along with brain function, as related to some of the brain chemicals.

There is a reduced cognitive capacity for making decisions, goal-setting and problem-solving—the things we think of as related to cognitive self-regulation.”

The Dyslexia-Stress-Anxiety Connection

Stress and anxiety increase when we’re in situations over which we have little or no control (a car going off the road, tripping on the stairs, reading in public).

All people, young and old, can experience overwhelming stress and exhibit signs of anxiety, but children, adolescents, and adults with dyslexia are particularly vulnerable.

That’s because many individuals do not fully understand the nature of their learning disability, and as a result, tend to blame themselves for their own difficulties.

Years of self-doubt and self recrimination may erode a person’s self-esteem, making them less able to tolerate the challenges of school, work, or social interactions and more stressed and anxious.

Many individuals with dyslexia have experienced years of frustration and limited success, despite countless hours spent in special programs or working with specialists.

Their progress may have been agonizingly slow and frustrating, rendering them emotionally fragile and vulnerable.

Some have been subjected to excessive pressure to succeed (or excel) without the proper support or training.

Others have been continuously compared to siblings, classmates, or co-workers, making them embarrassed, cautious, and defensive.

Summary:   Researchers have identified a blood biomarker that predicts the risk of suicide in patients with major depressive disorder.

The biomarker also can help researchers understand the molecular changes in suicide victims.

A University of California, Irvine-led team of researchers, along with members of the Pritzker Research Consortium, has developed an approach to identify blood biomarkers that could predict the suicide risk of major depressive disorder (MDD) patients.

More Evidence that the Immune System is more complicated than we thought:  Alzheimer's and the immune system's  Response to "HIERARCHY"

10/19/2022

This latest conceptualization of "ALZHEIMER'S" as an AUTOIMMUNE CONDITION is IMPORTANT.
This further develops this idea of COGNITIVE DIFFERENCE/DISABILITY as implicating the IMMUNE SYSTEM --- and the immune system is implicated also with:
  • Developmental Differences from Down Syndrome to ADHD & Autism, etc. and
  • Psychiatric Disorders
Additionally people with DEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES/DISORDERS and PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS are more at risk for various forms of DEMENTIA.

Further, many people with PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS do have some form of AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE --- THYROID DISEASE being one of the most common.

Finally, many AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES as well as CANCER have PSYCHIATRIC SYMPTOMS.

So there are MANY MANIFESTATIONS of a "DYSREGULATED" IMMUNE SYSTEM ---- some of those involve:
  • MOVEMENT
  • PAIN
  • COGNITIVE CHALLENGES (this is new), and
  • SOCIAL BEHAVIOR (this is new)
We are living in a time of LARGE SCALE ISSUES with CHRONIC DISEASE (including AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE & CANCER), DEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES/DISORDERS, PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS and DEMENTIA.

People have lived with these challenges and sometimes benefits for a long time:
  • But they weren't living as long as we are generally;
  • They didn't have the TECHNOLOGY to GO DEEP in their understandings of this the way we do.
It has taken widespread low grade inflammation to medium to high inflammation across the globe to expose these common health issues.
BETTER DIET & EXERCISE are essential --- BUT we need to start addressing the challenges of SYSTEMIC DEVELOPMENTAL INFLAMMATION ---
  • If we do ----that in itself could help reduce inflammation --- BECAUSE our IMMUNE SYSTEMS as SOCIAL ANIMALS are plugged into the SOCIAL ORDER.*
  • We want to take that ETHOS of the MARINES that we're not going to leave anyone behind --- and apply that to PUBLIC HEALTH.
Sapolsky on Free Will
I don't agree with everything in the video above --- BUT Sapolsky makes some important points about understanding the BIOLOGY of HUMAN BEHAVIOR ---
  • and it's often not exactly what we thought.

To me, if we want more FREE WILL or CONTROL--- we need better understandings of our own BIOLOGY.

*I think the stuff on the IMMUNE SYSTEM and the "Social Order" sounds pretty out there but I think the research is substantiating that ----
  • Further, one would expect "Social Concerns" for Social Animals to be a BIG Deal.
  • But even for Social Animals --- social concerns are not the only thing.
  • I think the Greeks and probably a lot of other people were right --- IT IS BALANCE -- but it is so much more COMPLICATED than 4 HUMORS --- and most of this balancing act is going on outside our conscious awareness and is involving trillions of factors that relate to:
    • Our Physical Environment
    • Our Social Environment
    • Our Bodily Environment, and
    • Multiple Systems of the Body
I think one way we've tried to deal with this is have MANY HIERARCHIES.  I think we may be coming to the limit of that as a strategy as we've got almost 8 BILLION people and NONE OF THEM want to be at the BOTTOM of the HIERARCHY or HIERARCHIES.

EQUALITY is really recognizing in the words of Pharrell Williams --- "That we're made of the same things."  ---- No we're NOT clones BUT the more we understand how all this works --- the more choice all of us will have --- Further, this is a LONG TERM PROJECT and to get the BEST RESULTS --- we need to recognize that we're all in this together.

New Understandings Matter:  Neuro-Developmental DifferencES, Psychiatric Disorders, Shared Genes, Maternal Immune Activation & Blurred Categories of ADHD & AUTISM

10/7/2022

One of the big reasons we are in CRISIS MODE all the time for Mental Health is that the FOUNDATIONAL UNDERSTANDINGS are NOT SUFFICIENT.

That is starting to change --- BUT so many people are being missed because they don't fit into DSM CATEGORIES that are NOT TRUE FUNDAMENTAL CATEGORIES that track the UNDERLYING BIOLOGY.

BEING PRO SOCIALLY COMPETENT for the SOCIETY is GOOD --- BUT it is not really a SUBSTITUTE FOR UNDERSTANDING those underlying BIOMARKERS.

Conjecture

So One of the BIG New Understandings is that:
  • Psychiatric Disorders are often related to Neuro-Developmental Disorders.

The understanding above is very much related to the research that:
  • Psychiatric Disorders & Neuro-Developmental Differences/Disorders --- Share Common Genes.

These Neuro-Developmental Disorders are so BLURRED that many people are MISSED, and the research is bearing out that people with BLURRED aspects of ADHD and AUTISM are OFTEN MISSED.

Homeostasis / Sustainability may not be HUGELY DIFFERENT for Neuro-Diverse people (sometimes it is) --- BUT it is DIFFERENT ENOUGH that it matters.
  • People with Neuro-Developmental Differences / Disorders have RAMPED UP STRESS RESPONSES --
  • And often because they are OPERATING in TOTAL or SEMI-IGNORANCE -- they are subject to a lot of STRESS, and
  • They are more vulnerable to PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS.

EPIGENETICS --- which can serve as a form of Neuro-Plasticity and Beyond.

Is it the BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS, the WORST, IT DEPENDS?

IT is what it IS --- and we need to understand it a lot better than we do.

EPIGENETICS are more and more recognized as  critical mechanisms in auto-immune diseases, neuro-developmental differences, psychiatric disorders and cancer.

Understanding the connection between Biology & Environment --- and Trying to get beyond Freud on Sexuality

10/4/2022

Val's Note:   An EVOLUTIONARY APPROACH to PSYCHIATRY tends not to have a problem with understanding that BIOLOGY and ENVIRONMENTS are INTER-CONNECTED.

In the video to the right, Dr. Nesse recognizes the SHARED GENES of "PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS."

He doesn't talk about the IMMUNE SYSTEM --- BUT it is pretty hard to ignore the role of the IMMUNE SYSTEM in PSYCHIATRIC and CHRONIC DISEASE in modern society.

Nesse also harkens back to --- Freud and says, "Hey, this all relates to sex."

When we're talking about animals or for that matter plants --- that's such a general statement that its like that HOROSCOPE --- it's so general that it's likely to apply in SOME RESPECT.

I would say like Shakespeare things may not be as they appear.

THE MODERN SEXUAL LANDSCAPE

We've got an explosion of infertility and a wide range of genders and sexual preferences and developmental differences ----
  • I don't think people view infertility as a moral issue generally
  • Our wide-ranging sexual preferences so long as we're not talking about children or coercion --- that's not the FELONY-LEVEL SEX CRIMES.
  • A lot of the increase in DEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES / NEURO-DIVERSITY also is coming with:
    • ramped STRESS RESPONSES
    • EMOTIONAL DYSREGULATION ,
    • DYSREGULATION of MULTIPLE SYSTEMS of the BODY, and
    • CHALLENGES in Executive Functioning
    • while at the same time often bringing "GIFTS" . . .
      • to me, a lot of anxiety that people have about SEX and RELATIONSHIPS is more FUNDAMENTALLY related to these DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES.

  • I think the GENDER and SEXUAL PREFERENCE LANDSCAPE is so "INTERESTING" that it can "BLIND" us to the fact that there are a lot of DEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES / CHALLENGES in the HETEROSEXUAL Population as well.

  • At some point --- we need to take a MORE SOPHISTICATED look at this.
    • We're really called on to use our CRITICAL THINKING while EDUCATING our MORAL JUDGMENTS and championing already established concepts of SELF-DETERMINATION.

  • IMMUNE effects during pregnancy are much more COMMON than we think.

INTEGRATIVE THINKING & the CURRENT TRADE-OFFS of ---- NEURO-DIVERSITY

Rotman School of Management --- University of Toronto
Solving "WICKED PROBLEMS" with INTEGRATIVE THINKING

Conjecture
  • We have a much BIGGER PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS than we realize with regard to Neuro-Developmental & Psychiatric Disorders.
One of the ways we got into this CRISIS was we have very STARK ideas about GOOD and BAD and the rather UTOPIAN IDEA that all the GOOD THINGS go together and all the BAD THINGS go together in terms of HUMAN TRAITS.
  • Hmmm . . .
  • There's been a lot of SELECTING for INTELLIGENCE, ATHLETICISM and CREATIVITY ---
    • On a BROAD SCALE that starts to look a lot different than that one IDIOSYNCRATIC GENIUS or OLYMPIC ATHLETE.
A lot of these BIG STRENGTHS are currently coming with various forms of SOME BIG TRADE-OFFS
  • Some of these BIG STRENGTHS seem related to VARIOUS FORMS of RAMPED UP SENSORY PROCESSING ---
    • It might be greater BODY AWARENESS
    • It might be the development of LOGIC to process both a lot of information and often a lot of EMOTION --
      • that comes with PROCESSING MORE.
    • It's the development of "ARTS & SCIENCES" -- to have some place to off load all this information that may get to other people and other generations.
Neuro-Diverse Therapist Louise Taylor ends her video on Empathy by saying "The Future is Neuro-Diverse. "
  • I think she is right and that brings its own set of CHALLENGES.
Further, Couples Counselor Mark Hutton notes that some think we may be "EVOLVING" towards "AUTISM" -- more "TASK-ORIENTED"-- and that could be more CHALLENGING than people realize.
I think at least some of us would like to AVOID MAKING SOME OF THESE UNPLEASANT TRADE-OFFS.
  • Or "MANAGE" them much more EFFECTIVELY.
Note:  I think a lot of Neuro-Diverse people fly "UNDER THE RADAR" because they have BLURRED characteristics of TRADITIONAL notions of ADHD & Autism.

Additionally, this problem is being RECOGNIZED in popular spaces such as ADDITUDEMag.  See also King's College London on the Blurred Nature of ADHD & Autism.

In some ways that BLURRED ASPECT can protect you.   On the other hand, it has more recently set people up for LATE or TOO LATE DIAGNOSIS.
That is one of many reasons why it is so important to get to the UNDERLYING BIOLOGY ---
  • SYMPTOM CLUSTERS can be MISLEADING.
  • To me --- the big issue is greater NEURO-DEVELOPMENTAL INFLAMMATION that is not just impacting the BRAIN but other organs and systems of the body.
  • INFLAMMATION is not all bad --- but if you're starting out with greater SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATION than the NORM and it's DEVELOPMENTAL that can have BOTH PHYSICAL & PSYCHIATRIC health consequences.
  • I know I really would have appreciated more of a "HEADS UP" -- but people did the best they could.
  • AND we do need to be giving people more of a "HEADS UP" and TARGETED and INDIVIDUALIZED approaches to deal with these DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES.
This isn't an argument for "EUGENICS" --- AND the RESEARCH is pushing us to confront REALITIES that are DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE THOUGHT.
  • For those Neuro-Diverse kids who were made to feel "LESS THAN" ---
    • The REALITY is those CHALLENGES are often coming with SOME STRENGTHS.

For those Neuro-Diverse kids who were celebrated for their Intelligence, Athleticism and/or Talent
  • The REALITY is those STRENGTHS are often coming with SOME CHALLENGES.

Bringing Executive Functioning Issues---OUT OF THE CLOSET

9/18/2022

If we can lower that Stress, that perceived EMPATHY is probably going to go way up.
Conjecture
  • When I say the "CLOSET" --- many Neuro-Diverse people with IQs over 70 are so in the "CLOSET" --- they don't even know it.
  • That turns out to be quite SERIOUS and potentially DANGEROUS.
  • That RAMPED UP SENSORY PROCESSING & STRESS RESPONSE ----
    • Do have some BIG STRENGTHS ---
    • BUT they also have some CONSIDERABLE CHALLENGES --
      • With PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS being ONE or NUMEROUS TRAPS for the UNWARY.
  • When I say NEURO-DIVERSE --- I'm generally talking about someone with a Neuro-Developmental Difference or BLURRED DIFFERENCES such as  ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Giftedness, OCD, etc. ---
    • that is often related to greater Developmental (often Systemic) Inflammation.
    • In some ways, Neuro-Diverse people may be OLD SOULS in more ways than one.

  • The "Neuro-Typical" LIFESTYLE is going to BURN-OUT or BREAKDOWN --
    • people with greater Developmental & Systemic Inflammation.

  • On the other hand, for many Neuro-Diverse people with IQs over 70 ---
    • they are not going to be able to maintain their "MENTAL HEALTH" ---
      • reading "baby books" or
      • not exercising what are often CONSIDERABLE STRENGTHS.

  • "HOMEOSTASIS" for Neuro-Diverse people is pretty NARROW ---
    • and it is pretty hard to achieve in this society
    • even if you have a lot of advantages and privilege --- much less if you don't.
    • See also Why Orchid --- many Neuro-Diverse people are much more Orchids than Dandelions.

  • Further, some Neuro-Diverse people who ostensibly "MADE IT" in this society ---
    • come off a little like "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY"

The NEW PARADIGMS are a BIG SHIFT.

  • AND you have the very real potential of making things worse.
I think there is a role for the Mental Health Profession and it may be best exemplified by EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS than what is available to most ADULTS.

What IF --- "UNMOTIVATED" Isn't What We Think ---Neuro-Diverse BURNOUT

9/15/2022

Conjecture
  • Neuro-Diverse Energy and Executive Functioning Challenges can lead to BURNOUT or even BREAKDOWN.
  • It's often CONFUSING to the Society, Professionals, Families and Individuals.
  • THIS IS A BIG PIECE OF THE PUZZLE --- WE'VE BEEN MISSING

The Relationships between Addiction to Highly Caffeinated Drinks, Burnout, and Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the addiction to highly caffeinated drinks among university students, and we investigated the relationships between smartphone addiction, depression, anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD …

Val's Note:  This is HUGELY PROBLEMATIC.

Some ADHDers and other Neuro-Diverse people are not just "addicted' to these caffeinated drinks because they like the taste --- those drinks are helping to MANAGE some extremely tricky energy and executive functioning developmental challenges.

  • CHALLENGES THAT THE SOCIETY AND MOST PROFESSIONALS AREN'T CLUED INTO

  • I would submit those DEVELOPMENTAL CHALLENGES are also a BIG FACTOR in our ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE USE PROBLEMS.

Further, another LEGAL SUBSTANCE is Tobacco --- now a lot fewer people are using this in 2022--- BUT I would submit those who are often are NEURO-DIVERSE.

You can see this even among some ATTORNEYS and DOCTORS---- in 2022 many have given that up BUT WHAT IS THE REPLACEMENT?

In the mid 20th Century -- the BIG ISSUE was HEART DISEASE --- it's still a big issue --- BUT PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS have far overtaken the concern for Heart Disease.

  • I think the "POPULATION" of the 2 groups is very much the same --- Neuro-Diverse People who are struggling to manage DEVELOPMENTAL ENERGY AND EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING CHALLENGES in a climate of IGNORANCE.
